WHAT
IS HYPNOSIS, ANYHOW?
Hypnosis
is a state of mind where the conscious, wakeful mind of an
individual relaxes--you might say that it takes a little "coffee
break"--leaving the subconscious mind open
to suggestions for change or improvement.
Intuitive faculties are heightened and higher guidance is more
readily available. Some states of hypnosis have measurable brain wave
frequencies different from both sleep & alert consciousness.
DOES
BEING HYPNOTIZED FEEL WEIRD?
No.
Most people experience hypnosis as a
pleasant and normal sensation of deep relaxation.
In fact, all of us go in and out of light hypnotic states every day.
An example of this is daydreaming.
WILL
I FORGET EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS DURING MY SESSION?
Although
it's possible to relax so deeply that one doesn't remember her or
his hypnosis session, most people remain fully aware of all that
occurs. If this is a concern for you, ask your hypnotist to suggest
to you that you will remember everything that has happened--and you will.
AM
I GOING TO LOSE CONTROL WHEN I'M HYPNOTIZED?
No. The
person being hypnotized is always in control.
You can emerge from hypnosis any time you desire. You
can't be hypnotized to do anything you don't want to do, so
you won't reveal any personal secrets or accept any suggestions
which go against your ethical & moral codes.
WHAT
IF I CAN'T BE HYPNOTIZED?
Only
a very small percentage of the human population cannot be hypnotized,
including some psychotics, people on certain medications and those
with very low IQs. All that is required is average
intelligence and a normal ability to concentrate.
Although some studies show that entering a hypnotic state is easier
for people who are bright and who have good imaginations, the
key factor is your willingness to cooperate.
WON'T
BEING HYPNOTIZED WEAKEN MY WILL?
On
the contrary, hypnosis is frequently used to strengthen a person's will.
